Koi and Gold fish are not native to the United States, they are listed in our non native section.
Within New York state it is
against the law to release any purchased animal
into the wild.
Like dumping fish in a nearby natural pond or
lake. This includes all frogs and turtles.
This does not apply to fish placed in your man
made pond. However, frogs and turtles could leave
your pond in search of a new home. In doing so the purchased animals could spread disease
and parasites to other animals. And in the case of non
native spieces, will compete with our naturally occuring
spieces for food. Thus, within New York, it is illegal to purchase
any frog or turtle to be placed in your outdoor
pond unless the pond is enclosed and created to
not allow these animals to escape your pond perimeter. Check your state
laws and wildlife regulations.
